Women in Construction

The Construction Industry is still no doubt considered ‘a Man’s world’, and the gender gap in the industry is still under scrutiny today. A recent survey in the UK showed that out of the 2.8m people employed in construction, only 296,000 were women, an 87:13 split [ONS Data & Industry Surveys 2017].

What is evident however, is that women have always, and will always, have a role in construction and that is why we just loved seeing this old photo showing a group of women moving a batch of reinforced steel rods at The Concrete Works, Exmouth Junction in 1950
