ew Build Nuclear Power Station Hinkley Point C is set to be one of the largest infrastructure projects of our generation. With progress on site already well under way, HPC is estimated to produce enough low carbon electricity for 60 years, enough to power around 6 million homes in the UK.
During peak construction as many as 5,600 people will be working on the site at any one time, as a result, major enabling works are in action across the county to improve transport links for employees and freight to and from the main site. Devoran Metals, are currently supplying Cares approved steel reinforcement to the M5, Junction 23 Park and Ride and Freight Management Centre as part of the HPC Associated Development works, for contractor Active Tunnelling Ltd. The Junction 23 Park and Ride Site is to be combined with a second site at Junction 24, to help control the amount of traffic on the roads, and to reduce carbon emissions as part of their transport strategy. EDF will organise busses to transport workers to and from the construction site. There will be space in the Park and Ride for up to 1,300 cars, minibuses, vans, motorcycles and bicycles. The freight management centre will have space for 85 heavy goods vehicles together with a freight checking area.
